Ernst & Young have made a brave move of going 100% hoteling with the office space only providing seating for about 40% of employees. Explore the reasons of why it still works out (hint: culture – technology – change management – well planned transition).
Ever thought you were surrounded by a group of monkeys on a sales meeting? Or being preyed by a lion when talking to your CEO? You probably had it right! 🐵🦁🐘🐬
“Constant evolution is a new organizational mandate that must flow directly into workplace strategies and design. As the world becomes more tech-oriented, creating a human-centered workplace will become all the more critical. With the right focus, the workplace itself can achieve its full potential as a stabilizing and mobilizing force for an organization’s most important asset: its people.”
Well said, dear CEOs!
We are joining the proclamation of Slovak media editors-in-chief.
We express our condolences to the families of Ján Kuciak, reporter of Aktuality, and his partner Martina Kušnírová.
The murder of a reporter is an alarming sign that crime is turning against the most fundamental pillars of freedom: the freedom of speech and the right of citizens to control those with power and those who break the law.
We appeal the government to take all the necessary steps to find the criminals and to create an environment where reporters can work safely.
Let’s meet at your local march.
Results from this research point to that reconfiguration of seating plan and the resulting cross pollination of ideas may result in direct increase of business performance.
“There is no doubt whatever about the influence of architecture and structure upon human character and action. We make our buildings and afterwards they make us. They regulate the course of our lives.” – Winston Churchill, 1924
There are plenty of advantages to a workplace based on biophilic design. But be aware that there’s much more to it than greenery and organic shapes.
Congratulations to our colleagues at HB Reavis for winning the first prizes at the annual Iroda.hu “Office of the year” competition in the categories “Planned Commercial Project of the Year” for AGORA Budapest and “Community Space of the Year” for AGORA Budapest Showroom!
Co-creation, personalization and coziness is something we always stood for. Again, backed by research, we seem to do the right things! 🙂
Imagine that you can’t leave the office for half a year.
This is exactly what NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly did on one of his missions.
Listen to his inspiring interview in Harvard Business Review’s Ideacast!
The C-suite is disappearing or at least blending into the general texture of the office space and it’s good for all parties.
Some cultures or countries adapt to emerging challenges in a more resilient way than others. This allows the global society to more easily experiment with emerging work-life policies and adopt them if they seem to better our lives.
Even if you’re not inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, a less fancy birdhouse will do. Don’t forget to feed the little singers in these cold winter times!
Culture drives strategy. Learn more in Harvard Business Review’s big read about how to define your values aligned with your goals.
Data Analyst, Virtual Simulation Designer, Immersive Reality Modeler… These are not from the career site of a tech giant but an article about the newly emerging roles in architecture.
The Internet of Things is not just all about the interconnected life that we wanted, but also about exposure to new threat. We’ll probably soon have to have cybersecurity AI guarding our smart buildings.
A cool visualization of the known cognitive biases. Get to know in how many ways your brain can actually alter your thoughts. Keep focused, be present and try not to judge or decide out of reflexes.
Our colleague Adam came across this great infographic about the effects of listening to music while working. Worth a look!
Smart buildings with all sorts of sensors is one thing, but mapping the chemical composition of the surface of our skin and then making the environment react to it?
For now it may be closer to science fiction than everyday technology, but don’t forget the case of the internet or the smartphone…
Our colleague Zinaida expresses just how much HB Reavis invests in reforming the commercial real estate by moving from investment focus to user experience centered projects.
Spaces shared between companies = HubHub, offices tailored to the user experience = Origameo. Seems like we’re on the right track! 😉
‘The Growroom’ concept is available to anyone who’s into some DIY.
Designed by SPACE10 – The Farm contributor architects Mads-Ulrik Husum and Sine Lindholm for those who want to farm in a space efficient way, it can also act as a community garden in common spaces of offices to support the daily 9-17 with some locally sourced veg & herbs.
It does require a CNC or laser cutter and some plywood, but it sure pays off and we guess building one is just as much fun (We’ll try to get one on our budget soon…)

BIG LIKE! 🙂
Do you leave your email pop-up notifications on, or do you turn them all off? It seems that letting your mind wander around about the uncertain things in the background is more disruptive than getting interrupted directly by an external impact.
One of our most favorite projects to date, the branch office of a logistics company in Warsaw turned out to be a huge success with the client.
Bottom line is that an open space is not bad as long as it’s thought out well and tailor made down to the details, but it’s easy to miss the spot.
